Featured Drona Movie Review

Abhishek Bachchan- Priyanka Chopra starrer latest film ‘Drona’ which had created unnecessary pre-release hype, has completely let down the audience, for the simple reason that director Goldie Behl didn’t know what he was selling and to whom. Perhaps, he only kept kids in mind. Moreover, a news was spread through the media that he had spent cores of rupees just over the get-up of the villain Kay Kay Menon. But, that too has deceived all. There’s nothing so special about it, except for the hair-style, which our stage show make-up men could have done better and with minimum expenses.

The film begins somewhere in US and then moves on to the deserts of Rajasthan only to remind the hero that he is no ordinary person and that his real mother( Played by Jaya Bachchan) belongs to a princely state. But, the wicked villain reaches there and in that only effective and unpredictable scene of the film gives a big shock to the audience including the hero. And then, Aditya( A.B.) turns into Drona. While Sonia( P.C.)continues to be his loyal bodyguard. In this film Abhishek is supposed to be a super-hero, but most of the fight scenes are performed by Priyanka Chopra. In fact, Abhishek only gets a good support from special effects team.

The biggest disappointment comes in the form of poor dialogues. The audience simply laugh at some of them, especially when Priyanka utters time and again as to what her Babuji had said. In the entire film you face only these three characters with a little of Jaya Bachchan, as most of the cast cover their faces wearing black uniform. The director has embraced more of mythology and fantasy and in the process completely forgot about the script. The screenplay fails to hold the audience to their seats as the unwanted song sequences, permit free movements to the audience. The song picturisation between mother and son indicates as if the director was still moving in 60s and 70’s era.

Drona does not display any vulgarity nor it is scary, but one may certainly call it comedy, especially the group of collegians, who don’t miss a single opportunity to clap at certain sequences with a clear intention to mock. The elders may only repent for spending their valuable time and money and keep yawning. It is only the kids, who love reading comic books may enjoy to a certain extent but that too after interval.

To assess the performances, Abhishek seems to have underplayed his role. Kay Kay Menon does not suit in this role, if you compare him with Amrish Puri . He does not look like a wicked man, though he is a very good actor. Priyanka is more into stunts than acting and Jaya Bachchan does nothing more than crying, in that small role. In all, Drona, which is supposed to be a fight between Good and Evil does not end with total destruction of Evil, as the director hints at coming out with a sequel soon. But, will there be takers for the same, after experiencing this act of foolishness?
