Watch Hari Puttar hindi Movie Review

Featured Hari Puttar Movie Review

Some of our Bollywood film makers have readymade themes coming from Hollywood. They are not ashamed of copying scene to scene, as they themselves lack creativity. The recently released film “Hari Puttar’ is one such film, which prior to its release gave an indication that it was an Indian version of Harry Potter, but after its release, it has turned out to be a copy of Hollywood film ‘Home Alone’ which we have seen several times on our TV screens on different channels and the makers of Hari Puttar are no exception.

Now, if you are copying a particular film, scene to scene, why should the writer take the credit. He should openly declare the name of the original writer after taking the proper permission. But, that will never happen in Bollywood. In the past some of the theme lifters have even walked away with script writer’s awards. And, that was a more shameful act.

Zain Khan plays the title role of Hari Puttar , son of Mr. Dhoonda ( Zakir Khan) and Ms. Dhoonda( Sarika) and it all happens in UK, where the family has just shifted in connection with some secret mission of Hari’s father. Soon the mother and son are joined by Hari’s aunty ( Lillete Dube) and uncle ( Jackie Shroff) who come along with a big troupe of children whom they call as their own and the remaining children belong to uncle’s boss. There is no point in narrating the remaining story, as it is the same as that of Home Alone. The two stupid thugs are played by Saurabh Shukla and Vijay Raaz. There is one retired ex-Army officer staying in the neighbourhood, who has no role to play.

As far as the performances are concerned, not a single character has been able to impress. Sarika is just Ok but Lillete Dube overacts. Jackie Shroff appears in between like any other character artistes of Hindi films. One wonders as to why did he accept such a junior artiste role? Above all, when it is called a children’s film, why show an item number in the title song? In all Hari Puttar fails in all departments resulting into a badly made copy.

Watch online Drona hindi Movie - Review

Featured Drona Movie Review

Abhishek Bachchan- Priyanka Chopra starrer latest film ‘Drona’ which had created unnecessary pre-release hype, has completely let down the audience, for the simple reason that director Goldie Behl didn’t know what he was selling and to whom. Perhaps, he only kept kids in mind. Moreover, a news was spread through the media that he had spent cores of rupees just over the get-up of the villain Kay Kay Menon. But, that too has deceived all. There’s nothing so special about it, except for the hair-style, which our stage show make-up men could have done better and with minimum expenses.

The film begins somewhere in US and then moves on to the deserts of Rajasthan only to remind the hero that he is no ordinary person and that his real mother( Played by Jaya Bachchan) belongs to a princely state. But, the wicked villain reaches there and in that only effective and unpredictable scene of the film gives a big shock to the audience including the hero. And then, Aditya( A.B.) turns into Drona. While Sonia( P.C.)continues to be his loyal bodyguard. In this film Abhishek is supposed to be a super-hero, but most of the fight scenes are performed by Priyanka Chopra. In fact, Abhishek only gets a good support from special effects team.

The biggest disappointment comes in the form of poor dialogues. The audience simply laugh at some of them, especially when Priyanka utters time and again as to what her Babuji had said. In the entire film you face only these three characters with a little of Jaya Bachchan, as most of the cast cover their faces wearing black uniform. The director has embraced more of mythology and fantasy and in the process completely forgot about the script. The screenplay fails to hold the audience to their seats as the unwanted song sequences, permit free movements to the audience. The song picturisation between mother and son indicates as if the director was still moving in 60s and 70’s era.

Drona does not display any vulgarity nor it is scary, but one may certainly call it comedy, especially the group of collegians, who don’t miss a single opportunity to clap at certain sequences with a clear intention to mock. The elders may only repent for spending their valuable time and money and keep yawning. It is only the kids, who love reading comic books may enjoy to a certain extent but that too after interval.

To assess the performances, Abhishek seems to have underplayed his role. Kay Kay Menon does not suit in this role, if you compare him with Amrish Puri . He does not look like a wicked man, though he is a very good actor. Priyanka is more into stunts than acting and Jaya Bachchan does nothing more than crying, in that small role. In all, Drona, which is supposed to be a fight between Good and Evil does not end with total destruction of Evil, as the director hints at coming out with a sequel soon. But, will there be takers for the same, after experiencing this act of foolishness?

Watch Welcome To Sajjanpur hindi Movie - Review

Featured Welcome To Sajjanpur Movie Review

Nuclear proliferation, communal animosity, plight of the 'third' sex, terrorism, naxalism, regionalism....you name and you got it and when served with a blend of a laughter spice you get a movie called Sajjanpur. Its a hilarious movie that portrays the reality as it is with least pretense and this is where it might bite a lot of people who blatantly call themselves intelligent . And it is a slap on the face of the intelligentsia in a way that it succeeds in calling a spade a spade.

Sajjanpur is a consummate movie where all the characters are strong and are interlinked in one way or the way, the obvious link being the protagonist: The Letter Writer. Right from the snake charmer to former Sarpanch of the village every character is draped in unique color that adds to the already strong plot of the movie. The aforementioned issues are dealt with a touch of humor and watch out for the Munni Bai's dialogs. Speaking of which the only flipper side of the movie could be its utterly rustic dialogs but that can be ignored conveniently because when you will walk out of the hall you would have a wide smile on your and a lump in your throat.

On the acting front Ila Arun and Ravi Jhankal deserve a special mention here. Watch out for the emotional scene between Shreyas Talpade (who plays the role of Mahadev, the letter writer) and Ravi Jhankal where you would be turned to tears and yet their first encounter is such a laughter riot that I literally jumped ten feet above my seat because I couldn't contain my laughs.

It is not to say the movie is only on the lighter side. Coming from Shyam Benegal, I had a preconceived notion about the movie being some serious affair, but I was pleasantly surprised. This completes the platter of the legendary director and he has proved his mettle yet again (not that he needs to!)

The only churlish that would spoil the party would be the story of a compounder who falls in love with a widow. The topic could have been given a much better treatment. But the end of their story is truly shocking. So are some brilliant scenes when one does not know what else to do but to feel sad and cry for the characters. The movie doesn't looses its grip and keeps you bound to your chair for the better part of its length. The songs of course are ill timed and some numbers are a sheer pain. But the title track scores a home run.

And it is a respite to see a film totally based on a village (and I presume entirely shot in one too....). The lives of the villagers and their daily doings is a relief to watch amidst the high-action-nonsense movies that flood the mainstream cinemas. There is nothing larger than life about Sajjanpur but the spirit of its villagers, more so that of the protagonist Mahadev who is flawed in many ways, that makes the movie more believable. Amrita Rao, as a Gaon ki Gori, is a delight for the eyes. I don't know if I would recommend to watch Sajjanpur with family but it is definitely a must watch.

For the budding writers I would say you cannot afford to miss this one. The movie seems to have been written very well and the theme surrounds a writer.
